Kali Tawa Rainbowfish – Rare Blue & Red-Tailed Freshwater Rainbowfish

The Kali Tawa Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia sp. "Kali Tawa") is a rare and exceptionally beautiful freshwater rainbowfish admired for its shimmering blue coloration, brilliant red tail, and striking white fins.

Originating from the Kali Tawa locality in West Papua, Indonesia, this remarkable rainbowfish was introduced to the aquarium hobby in 2019 and remains scientifically undescribed.

Mature males develop an extraordinary combination of metallic blue and turquoise body tones, contrasting snow-white dorsal and anal fins, and a vibrant reddish tail. Their colours become especially impressive during courtship and social displays.

Unlike many larger rainbowfish, the Kali Tawa Rainbowfish remains relatively compact, making it an excellent choice for well-maintained, medium-sized planted aquariums.

Peaceful, active, and highly social, these fish thrive in groups where their natural interactions showcase their remarkable coloration.
