Red Rainbowfish – Brilliant Scarlet-Red Freshwater Schooling Fish
The Red Rainbowfish (Glossolepis incisus) is a spectacular freshwater aquarium fish admired for its brilliant scarlet-red coloration, elegant body shape, and energetic swimming behaviour.
Native to Lake Sentani in Papua, Indonesia, this stunning rainbowfish is particularly famous for the extraordinary coloration of mature males, which can develop a deep crimson-red body with shimmering metallic highlights.
Females and juvenile fish generally display softer olive, silver, or golden tones, creating a beautiful contrast within a group.
Red Rainbowfish are active, social fish that thrive in spacious aquariums with plenty of open swimming space, planted areas, and stable water conditions.
Their lively behaviour, impressive adult size, and remarkable coloration make them an outstanding choice for larger peaceful freshwater community aquariums.
When maintained in groups and provided with a nutritious, varied diet, mature males can display exceptionally vibrant colours, creating a striking centerpiece for any rainbowfish collection.
